Nova Scotia Minimum Wage Increases
Starting 1 October 2023, minimum wage workers in Nova Scotia had receive a pay increase. The province’s minimum wage increased by 90 cents to CAD 14.50 per hour, marking the first of two increases that the government declared in February. The pay now reached CAD 15 per hour with the second increase in October 2023.
With the increases, the province will remain competitive with Newfoundland and Labrador and P.E.I., both of which has implemented a CAD 15 minimum wage on 1 October 2023. Additionally, Nova Scotia has committed to raising the minimum wage every April in accordance with the percentage change in the Consumer Price Index for the preceding calendar year plus one percent.

Employees not Eligible for minimum wage rules
- Some agricultural laborers are not entitle for minimum wage rules
- Apprentices working as required by the ATQ Act under the terms of an apprenticeship agreement
- Anyone enrolled in programs approved and sponsored by the Canadian government
- If you are working for a nonprofit summer camp or playground then you will not get this hike
- Salespeople for cars and real estate will not be eligible.
- Commission salespeople who operate outside of their employer’s property, but not on designated routes
- If you are into Insurance Act-licensed agents of insurance then no hike for you.
