IRS Stimulus Check Explained

Either a stimulus check in the mail or an tax credit will be given to taxpayers. Checks for unpaid taxes are often automatically added to the outstanding balance owing by the recipients. Fiscal policy, which includes stimulus checks, is a tool used by governments to attempt and affect a nation’s economic circumstances.

The significance of stimulus checks is in their capacity to give individuals in need quick access to money, enabling them to meet their most basic requirements and preserve stability in trying times. These disbursements have the potential to mitigate fiscal difficulties, avert more economic deterioration, and foster economic recuperation and expansion. Stimulus checks can also help companies and job development by raising consumer spending.

Stimulus Checks for Seniors Eligibility

  • A household’s AGI may not exceed USD 75,000 for single individuals, USD 150,000 for married couples filing jointly, and USD 112,500 for the head of the household.
  • The Stimulus Check for Seniors Payment 2024 will be given to veterans, those who are 65 years of age or older, and those who receive Social Security payments.
  • Any family member, regardless of age, with a Social Security number (SSN) or dependent may be eligible to receive the Stimulus Check for Americans.

Impact of Stimulus Checks for Seniors

As i said, a stimulus check might be viewed as a way to lower taxes. To encourage firms and individuals to save more money and spend more, the government can reduce taxes. A stimulus check during a recession may incentivize companies and people to increase their spending or investments due to their increased disposable income.

Demand will rise in response to increased consumption, which will lead to an increase in employment for firms. Wages will rise in response to a greater demand for labor, which will in turn stimulate spending in a positive feedback loop.

Effectiveness of Stimulus Checks for SSI, SSDI, VA

Stimulus Checks, when combined with other monetary and fiscal policy actions, significantly lowered the jobless rate and raised GDP. The amount by which the checks themselves are responsible for the beneficial effect could not be definitively determined, though. It is assumed that stimulus payments will be spent or that they will incentivize customers to spend additional money. That could not always be the case, though, since customers can decide to put the money aside or spend it in a way that doesn’t immediately boost GDP or jobs.

        • I would like to know why every state and every person on disability checks does not receive the stimulus check. Every person in America is being affected by the state of our economy and if you help one you should help all. This makes no sense what so ever, but our whole government is a joke now so I am not surprised.

          • I’m with you. I’m a 60yr old woman on TOTAL SSD. It is my ONLY monthly income., & not enough to even pay for my housing monthly, let alone food & basic utilities. I am not able to return to work at all, even part time, because of my continually Progressive declining disease. Should I even try I would lose my entire SSD benefit. I am in what I call the empty hole of help. I am not eligible for many of our state benefits actually all of them due to the fact that my SSD income is over the allowable limit in order to be eligible for help. It is a sad reality that people in my situation, with no partner to help with expenses, are left to find ways to support their needs just to live. Many times if it were not for the love and support of family members and Friends that have helped me out I would surely have suffered greatly and possibly be the demise of me. Needless to say I lean heavily into my faith very strongly and put it all in God’s hands. I consider myself blessed because my needs somehow have been met in times where I saw no light.

          • I totally agree with you Tricia we all deserve to be helped with the struggles and ones that need it so much aren’t getting any help.
I know I’m not And I’m not surprised either if I didn’t need it I wouldn’t say anything unbelievable.

          • I agree. I live in Arkansas and we never get any stimulus money. Only what the Federal Gov.sends all states. Otherwise Arkansas has been left out.

          • Exactly! I am 60 on SSI in Pennsylvania and we are not on the list. And I get over the limit for extra help also.
It is sad there is such a loophole in the system.

          • I couldn’t agree more, that is very unfair and unjustified for certain states to receive a stimulus as we all know that the economy is causing everyone in the US to struggle significantly nationwide and all states should be approved and qualified for that money to help them out, what kind of government system do we have that show such unjustified favoritism such as this

          • I would like to know too. I’m 62 on SSDI qualified for a stimulus check 2023 guess what NEVER got one. My husband was on VA Disability Pension Benefits but he is in that VA over payment scandal like A LOT of other veterans are. Which VA Took their benefits away from
them. Other wise those veterans would qualify for the stimulus payments. So YES ever US citizens is not being treated equal. The States with the extra Covid Funds and not sending to their residents of their states. We want to know WHERE THE COVID/STIMULUS WENT TO. SURE DIDN’T GO TO HELP THE CITIES OF THEIR STATE.
Sorry for the caps. But I’m frosted with these greedy states.

          • I so agree with you. It’s not rt to help one and not the other. And I live in Mississippi the poorest state and it’s not on the list why.

          • If you read and search this it says all SSI SSDI SSA RECIPIENTS get this stimulus check . That everybody means all . I’m on SSDI myself so we all should get this pay out by February 14th 2024 .

          • I agree with you I’m 72 in ssdi and I’m struggling and it affecting my health and mentally all my life is since I stopped working is scared I constantly seeking for help and just thinking I can’t believe your choosing who to help we all need help how van we explain to see that look there’s a 99 store there’s time I got to go threw their trash and get what they thrown out it’s not funny after being a manager and the worst is they say I receive to much to get extra help so im being judge cause I worked I’m just can’t believe so it is what it is is who are disable on ssdi and not a senior 62 is a senior but what is it you big guys want us to be down if not we would not be like this sorry but true

        • How are they only picking certain states to receive these so called benefit check and I thought anything like this has to be approved by Congress the only thing IRS does is take money

          Reply
          • You need to be asking your state legislature what they are doing with the money other states are allocating to their residents. Federal monies are often distributed how the individual state sees fit. Sad but true!

          • If you read the part about which states it says “Some states have approved New Aide Initiatives”…It does not say that people in other will not be eligible. I guess we just have to cross our fingers & pray that they include all the rest of the states..

        • Yes I Agree with her Nebraska hadn’t got a Stimulas check and Utah hasn’t got there Fourth stimulas why can’t we get our Fourth Or Nebraska get all there 3 Stimulas checks which they r Owed That’s fair

We are all in survival mood but I can’t get enough food then my car can’t get fixed and I can’t get to doctor appt. My survival rate doesn’t look good when I can’t get basic needs met.so why is it i can’t get help like other states are giving? Do I have to move to get help. Because I can’t afford that either!. I ñeed to see a doctor and get heart medication or I will ďie. Does anyone care? No I don’t think they do. Or 8 wouldn’t be in this position to begin with.

        • I too I’m wondering why Hawaii is not in the list for this stimulus check. I only get $902.00 every month from SSI and I am struggling with bills. This $1400.00 or $2000.00 stimulus will be a great help for us seniors living in Hawaii. It is just so unfair for seniors in Hawaii if Hawaii is not in the list. Renting a home in Hawaii is super expensive and I am struggling. I am struggling.

  2. I would like to know why Louisiana is not on that list of states to receive the 2000 stimulus.payments? I am 75 and my husband is 73. We have retired after working a combined 100 years. After drawing Social security for a few years my check was reduced because of the Windfall Elimination Provision. I worked almost fifty years on Social Security and paid in my fair share. These programs are labeled entitledment programs, and l believe anyone who has paid in this program for as long as I have is entitled. Louisiana is one of the poorest state in America and our state politicians have not tried to help those of us who are entitled.GET OUT AND VOTE PEOPLE!!!

I don’t get it I’ve always been taught and learned that 60 and above is seniors apparently not I guess we’re just still young chickens you have to be 65 or older to get any kind of help I think that’s straight BS of our government none of them go without none of them have to skip meals or medication they all have maids and butlers or whatever it takes to look like big shots but here we are and theoretically we pay their wages they make big money and they even get to draw social security and get all the extra benefits but here’s the American people going hungry well our president is beating and helping other countries, don’t get me wrong help them who need the help but then who don’t need the help the high pain corporates and the big money winners they don’t go without I’ll bet you all know it macaroni and cheese and hot dogs are that is even gotten to be too expensive to buy nowadays no wonder our old people are eating cat food your basic can of tuna fish nowadays are over two dollars so I mean come on really Oregon needs to senior citizens are 60 and up not 65 and up and SSI is a joke if you really want the truth how’s the person supposed to live on a little measly 940 a month you can’t do it you have to struggle and you have to rob Peter to pay Paul and you’re still going to bed hungry at night it’s a shame that are senior citizens/ us old people are going without. And it was our taxes and our money that they’re all getting now, as we go hungry, cold, just playing doing without sincerely yours truly Oregon Senior going hungry.

Those who make such gracious decisions should have to try and live on our meager amounts. I bet ‘they’ would not manage as well as we have been forced to! We do without so many things!

I know exactly what you mean. I got a letter from social security saying in January I will get a small raise in benefits. Then I got a letter about my food stamps will be cut. What good does it do to get the raise if their going to cut my food stamps. I’m already having to buy food from my check. So really we are not getting anything.

Last stimulus I got was the rest of what Trump promised 1400… Biden administration did not dare hold that from ALL the people… So right now many struggle because our state says we make to much to get food assistance.. I highly doubt rebates. Coming to Oklahoma

And it seems that our politicians don’t even care. I say let’s start a petition, and vote them out. These stimulus must be for all not just for some states. And if that doesn’t work move.

We have to fight to just get a Dr. We wait 2-3 months just to get a appointment to register for Health care.
It has been printed and spoke about that 800 new residence are moving to Fl each day. If so, why does Our Governor help us out ?

    • Well maybe if all of you that are on here complaining didn’t vote for Republicans. You would get the much needed assistance… I am getting 1000 a month to live on. You can’t even call that living. I’ve had 5 heart attacks and 8 strokes I’m 46 and it’s genetic. There was nothing I could have done differently in life that would have stopped this from happening to me. But I would be happy for others that could receive a 4th stimulus even if I didn’t. When did everyone become so selfish? This is why the world is going in the direction it is. Be kind to each other and be happy for those who do get the help. You never know it might just come back and help you get it.

    • The law makers who make decisions which affect “regular folks” would act differently they didn’t have enormous privileges, but depended on social security benefits. When lawmakers finally agree on an idea, they draft a bill which takes tremendous effort & cooperation to make it’s way to be signed into law. These bills always include a clause exempting & “protecting” it’s mandates, giving them “a free pass”. Further, lawmakers are grossly manipulated by priority powerful elitists who pay billions for professional lobbyists. These lobbyists have special privileges & exclusive access to lawmakers, unavailable to any ordinary citizen. This combination of “backdoor” access, immunity for politicians & the restrictions of a 2 party system (I know there’s more than 1 party, but it’s really a game of Democrats vs Republicans who fight non-stop), lead to waste beyond comprehension. Everyone in the USA deserves better, wether on social security or not. All people in the union, should be given the same access to resources (social security & other programs), without exception. Use the power of your voice everywhere possible. Vote with knowledge for local, state & federal representatives. Contact your Congress reps, state reps & federal reps regularly via written letter and/or email, as well as calling their offices directly. Join local, state & national groups to bolster your voice with the strength of others. Get involved in government yourself. But do so after learning the platforms of current leaders, those of the past platforms & become better acquainted with civics. That way your voice will more effective. Don’t reinvent the wheel. Use the force of positive synergy and make real changes for yourself and future generations! Sincerely, Phil Williams

I have to rent a room because I can’t afford a studio apartment because 99% of them are renting for $500.00 to a $1,000.00 a month more than I even receive. And have been on a section 8 waiting list for almost 3 yrs. Now and I’m still nowhere even near the top of the waiting list. An extra $500.00 a month would even help, because $83.00 a month in food stamps doesn’t feed me for even a week. I sure wish the our Congress and Senate people who are living on over $100,000.00 a year would try and live on what I have to live on every month. I haven’t had any meat in my diet since the extra S. N. A. P. Fund’s where cutoff almost a Year ago. This is shameful what their doing to us. I worked for over 30 yrs. And put my life on the thin line for over 15 yrs. And I can’t even afford a hamburger once a month.

The news said over a yr ago, American ppl were spending upwards of 300 dollars a month, and my cola last yr was 57 dollar. And as many of you stated, they only turned right around( like the next) and food stamps were dropped by the exact amount. So tell me how they gave anyone any extra to help. In fact, 57 dollars is no where near the 300 dollars ppl have to spend just to try and live…
          I’m disgusted with this government…

I’m going to be 60 next month and I have been on SSI since 2022, and the $914 I get every month, won’t even get me a place to live and I’m basically homeless!
Does Tennessee care about that, no!!!
If they did, they would do something about revamping the SSI program,so that the people who have to rely on SSI, can at least get a place to live and be able to survive, month to month!

  11. People on SSI are not allowed to have 2000.00 in their bank accounts and we don’t pay taxes because we are considered poverty level. We barely survive on 914 a month. Pennsylvania isn’t on the list either. 1400.00 would be a big help. I don’t understand this at all.

    Reply
    • I too am from Pennsylvania. All the government did was give medical packages out as stimulus help. We need this too but we need direct payments just as well. It’s not fair at all a handful of states get this help but we don’t. We’re suffering too!

    • This is so true you hear the true Factor close to heart even with the numbers. In the state of Texas to be on SSI and SSDI you cannot exceed more than you have not mistaken is $1,300 a month. And over that amount you would lose or the other of the SSI or the SSDI . The government knows this with this 2000 stimulus will it be for the people on disability or would it be against us to make us lose the benefits we already have that we fought for? In Texas to rent a one bedroom one bath apartment starts at $2400. So $900 with SSI and SSDI still leaves a person homeless. If $900 cannot cover the foundation of having a home. There’s nothing for personal essentials, vehicle gas, groceries, pet food, vehicle repairs, medications, anything medical, etc. The government knowing people on disability cannot go over $1,300 a month. How do we know the $2,000 stimulus check will not affect in losing any parts of disability money. My benefits are by the wages that I made when I worked which was under $7 an hour. Who can live with that in 2024? The government needs to help people on disability not by the wages that they made when they were working but the wages of the current year. The fact is in 2024 he cannot live off the years when minimum wage was $7. Economy prices have gone up.

Same here what about Pennsylvania are we the people that live here we all could use $2,000.00 we are lucky if we can pay the rent and utilities, the rent is ridiculous here in Pennsylvania people are paying anywhere from $1,200.00 a month to $2,500.00 a month or more, I’m 60yrs old and received SSI I was wondering if I qualify, thank you for your time.

Are you sure Arizona is sending these checks out as I know lots of ppl in Arizona and no one has gotten nothing yet. Also, in years before this one, it came automatically will it come that way again. My rent has increased and boy could I use that to pay my rent and get the out of pocket meds I have to pay for. It would truly be a huge blessing. Thank you. Please reply back.

    • I think because article states you must have put in a tax return in order to receive the stimulus in the States listed.
Everyone on SSI needs to support the new bill being proposed to raise the savings limit of $2000 a month to $10,000 a month. The SSI rules were made in 1972 and have not changed since instituted. Look at the social security death benefit. It is still the same amount when instituted.. $200 something dollars. You cannot cremate a person for $200+ dollars forget about burying them in casket which cost minimum $8,000.
      Some religions forbid cremation.
There are on board right now 4 Senators who are pushing a bill to replace the antiquated $2000 a month limit in savings account ( if you can even manage to save anything!).
Microsoft, IBM, Catholic Charities plus a multitude of companies backing this bill.
A Senator in NewYork, Pennsylvania, Ohio + Louisiana.
Please, for God’s sake, write your Congressmen and Senators and plead with them to support this proposed bill.
Look it up, Google the bill so you have the name/ number er of the bill.
Power is in numbers of people and people’s votes. I hope so anyway
Too much greed. Congressmen are annually voting raises for themselves, do no work, always out of session, cannot agree on anything. Our Country is polarized and stagnant.
There should be term limits on people elected into Congress. Once they get there they hold their seat until they die of old age.
Term limits will create fresh blood, fresh minds in Congress.
Write your constituants! Complain like holy h e l l the unfairness of it all. They are supposed to be working FOR the people. Taxpayers are paying their huge salaries.
Soon there will be no middle class, just the wealthy and the poor.
Gotta raise up and have your voices heard.
      God help us!

I split my bills with a partner that receives ssi too because its impossible to live on this amount. Yet you hold us up against the wall and penalize those who want to marry and reduce our benefit. If we do. We deserve to live too. We contributed to this insurance with our paid taxes. And now we get another let down by not being eligible for this stimulus. And the state of MI is not on the list for me or no one eles even if they are eligible Why? I’m pretty sure a lot of ppl who need this extra money feel used and overlooked on. But yet people rely on our vote.

Poor Presidential decision probably based on ego hatred for anything Trump did. Trump did so many great things for the people that were never mentioned in the left media so no one ever got privy to that knowledge.

We are hurting just as bad or worse than those who are 65. Most of them get a retirement check plus social security and people like me don’t get that retirement check to help us make ends meet. My whole check is gone before I get it and don’t have anything left for the month. Its very depressing and adds to your medical problems all the stress and worry of how your gonna make it. They should give it to everyone on social security and disability no matter age and give it to the lowest paid ones first and give us lower paid ones more than the ones that get more money. We struggle also.

Our social security checks that we get once a month is not enough for us to survive. Please take in consideration we have to choose between our bills , medical supplies, medicine, food supplies, and personal things while the others recipients are receiving extra stimulus to help them. Please consider helping us people that do not file taxes , the ones that receive social security, and ssdi we are people who deserve and are struggling too.

  46. I have to totally agree with all these people. I took an on benefits and receive nearly enough to pay my bills. I live in Washington state and each state was given money to hand out to the needs of people but Washington hasn’t handed out anything to the people of eastern Washington at all. They handed some money to Seattle residents but not much. You seen how states were helping out people but not this state. And of course Washington isn’t on that list now either. There’s something very wrong about this system they set up for each state and who’s verifying what these states did with this stimulus money. In the meantime we have more and more people becoming homeless and no where to turn for help because they say they have no money. Ok we’re did it go then. I read about some of were the money was going and the majority was the Seattle area. Well we live in Washington as well and have been overlooked because our senator don’t like eastern Washington. You talk about discrimination here. I guess Seattle needed a dog park a lot more then it needed to help the others of this state. Then the age group from 50-65 has been left out of any help what’s so ever. We had children and we struggled at least us single parent households. And now that are children are grown and raised we are once again having to struggle in society just to make ends meet. The world has been unfair to us from the beginning. It would have been nice to have had all those tax credits and breaks they are handing out now back then when I was raising my 4 boys by myself. I worked all my life except the years my kids were born 2-3 jobs at times. I never got help. I live in an RV and nearly make my bills with what I receive for ssdi. The government has not helped this age group of people who have struggled all their lives and have to pinch for pennies now or live on the street. Shame on the government for picking and choosing who should get money and to the representatives of states that withheld helping the people really in need. I can hardly wait for this world to blow up. See how fair that is.

  51. Hi, I lived in Washington State (NOT washington DC) for 46 yrs and just moved to Idaho. Neither Washington State or Idaho are on that list. I have worked since I was 14 yrs of age. I was medically laid off from my job in 2011 due to my health. I was ill enough that I received my SSDI without a lawyer, or having to reapply multiple times in 2011. I have worked part-time (with much difficulty at times) from 2014 until very recently. I moved out of Washington State because of the massive gas taxes(highest of all US states), and other excessive taxes put onto us by our Governor and his cronies…… I have never received any extra help from SSDI or the state. I was a non-payed for , 24/ 7 full time in home care provider for an elderly woman, who was nice, but extremely stingy. Did not believe in paying me, because I can get paid from the government. The government would have to take all her properties, bank accounts and her SSI in order for me to receive any kind of help from OUR government. Just, to take care of a little old 87yr old in her home, than to place her in an overworked, under paid nursing home. Sooo, I helped her for rent of a 19ft travel trailer on her property. No water,, electricity only, for 8 yrs. Only way to afford any essential in life, like a car to travel to work. Because of my used car DSHS and, food stamps I make $75.00( seventy-five dollars ) to much a month to qualify for help. She passed away last year. None of her 7 childern even reimbursed me $10.00 to take care of their mother for 8 yrs and keep her out of a nursing home and all of their inheritance money intact…Pretty sad…but my only way of living in our economy… REALLY SAD..

‘The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will be providing Stimulus Checks for Seniors on SSI, SSDI, VA to eligible persons who are 65 years of age and older with a $2,000 stimulus check every month as part of the continued efforts to help elderly citizens. It seeks to give older Americans especially those who are struggling financially the much-needed financial support they so much need.”

The states listed are helping their people, they are not states that the IRS is only helping. ALL elderly citizens who are 65 and older, who are eligible will get the 2000 dollars.

I’m 53 years old and I’m in SSI, I live in Washington state. I received the 1 and 2 stimulus checks but not the 3rd. People in Washington have been left out for many programs because of our governor. There are many of us not just in Washington state but throughout the country who can’t work but are too young to claim programs that would help us.
